Anyone have a copy of Arnold's Handbook of Costume? Is it worth a couple hundred dollars? I've never even seen it, but I might be able to get a copy for around $150... Should I take the plunge and get it or buy something else instead? Thanks guys. :)

Btw, I just finished draping and altering my bustle dress bodice. It is SO cool! I love darts and curved seams! This is way more fun than making an Elizabethan bodice... Yay :)

Bustle dresses ARE more fun to make than Elizabethans. I want to see pictures!! If you're going to drape the bustle too, cheap stripe fabric is really helpful for that especially if your dress fabric is striped, since you can see where the grainline of the fabric is going.

Handbook of Costume? Never seen it. Am just about to buy Costume Close-Up, myself.

My fabric is striped. Smart girl.

Btw, Costume Close-Up is in my shopping cart right now. See, this is why we're friends twins. =D

The pattern for my victorian bodice is now on my website under 'patterns.'

I think we actually do. :)

I havent seen the "Handbook of costume" before. Its wouldnt surprise me if if was that expensive though. Ive been looking at this one...
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0901286206/qid=1123278653/sr=8-5/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i5_xgl74/701-1996451-9414703
and its pretty expensive too.

Well I usually see it for $250, so $150 is sounding awfully good.

As for QEWU, that one's a given! Buy it if you can get anything of a decent price. It's really an invaluable part of my library, and will be for you, too.

I don't remember many specifics about the book, but I had checked it out of the library a few months ago to see whether it was worth purchasing. the sketches were pretty, but it was more of a general summary (panniers! empire! hoops! bustles!) and I didn't think it worth the investment.

Oh, what a shame! I'm disappointed... Thanks for the heads up.
